Union leader seeks industrial peace in aviation

Amidst recent industrial actions that crippled the aviation industry, a union leader, Comrade Ogbe Ogala John, has stressed the need for the unions to promote industrial harmony in the sector.

He said, “Industrial peace is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of wisdom.”
John, who is aspiring for the Presidency of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), one of the unions in the aviation industry vowed to promote industrial harmony if elected as the President.

Addressing newsmen on Thursday, the union leader unveiled five pillars upon which his presidency would be anchored.

These including promoting Industrial Harmony through Collective Engagement; Building the Capacity of All Members; Deepening Branch Involvement in Union Governance; Strengthening and Repositioning the National Secretariat and Achieving Self-Sustainability and Expanding Unionization.

He said, “We will build bridges, not barriers. We will promote dialogue, not discord. Our goal is simple: to ensure a peaceful and productive aviation industry where workers’ voices are heard, respected, and rewarded.

“Industrial peace is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of wisdom. When we engage constructively, we strengthen our union, and we protect our members.

“Knowledge is the engine of empowerment. We will train, mentor, and equip our members and leaders with modern tools of negotiation, conflict resolution, and progressive unionism. No member will be left behind, for an enlightened workforce is an unstoppable force.

“We will decentralize leadership participation and empower every branch to handle local challenges confidently, while the national leadership provides strategic guidance.

“Together, we shall build a union of trust, from the grassroots to the top. The National Secretariat must become a model of efficiency, transparency, and progress. We shall make it a vibrant hub ,a center of dialogue, administration, and innovation.”

He disclosed that his administration shall pursue strategic investments, business ventures, and membership expansion that will generate revenue and reduce external dependence.

“Our goal is a self-sustaining ATSSSAN that works for its members, protects their future, and leads with confidence.
“Fellow comrades, these five pillars form the foundation of our journey toward renewal. This is not a campaign of promises, it is a movement of purpose.”
