The Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP) has threatened a showdown with the management of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency NiMET over condition of service of its workers.

Daily Trust learnt that the union had given a six-month ultimatum to the agency which is expected to lapse next month.

The union, it was learnt, has been engaging NIMET management since 2017 and in the letter requested for a meeting to sort out the matters.

The union had written a letter to the NIMET in November 2017 without a response from the agency.

Among the issues of contention was the alleged recruitment of about 200 workers from a geopolitical zone while the workers were allegedly placed on a higher level ahead of the old staff.

Other issues include training and retraining of staff, promotion and filling existence vacancies in the agency, NiMET station and operational facilities, among others.

The union on March 16, 2018 issued another letter requesting for audience with the management of NiMET and threatening a showdown with the management.

With the ultimatum expiring next month, ANAP insists the ultimatum remains binding.

When contacted, the National secretary of ANAP, Comrade Abdulrasaq Saidu disclosed that the ultimatum remained binding adding that NiMET in their own interest should yield to the union’s demand.

According to Comrade Saidu, there was no going back on the ultimatum having made unsuccessful attempts to reach out to the management.

He said NiMET management should be held responsible for any industrial unrest in the establishment after the expiration of the ultimatum.
