The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, to resolve the lingering industrial dispute in the state’s judiciary over “illegal deduction” of salaries in the state high court or face total shutdown of the judiciary in the state.

JUSUN made this known in a communique issued and made available to journalists after an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union held in Abuja yesterday.

It described as unacceptable the sacking and reinstatement, with stringent conditions, of its 21 members by the Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

In the communique signed by its President and General Secretary, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu and Isaiah M. Adetola respectively, JUSUN also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the full implementation of financial autonomy of state judiciaries.

The JUSUN NEC also inaugaurated a three-member committee headed by its National Legal Adviser, Comrade Mahmud M. Amin, to interface with Gov. Sule to resolve the crisis in the state judiciary.

The committee is under the supervision of the JUSUN national president, with the mandate to shut down the Nasarawa State judiciary at the expiration of the two-week ultimatum.

The union also commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Council (TUC) in the state for their intervention in the matter, saying, “An injury to one is an injury to all.”
