Union threatens to resume strike

The Senior Staff Association of Universities Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI) has resolved to resume its suspended strike action, citing the inability of the Federal Government to honour the agreement reached with the association in March, 2018.

This was contained in a communiqué issued after the sectoral council meeting of the association at the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), Ibadan and made available to newsmen in Kaduna.

The Communiqué jointly signed by the Sectoral Chairman and Secretary, Comrade Felix Uwadiae and Ademola Olajire respectively stated that the decision to resume the strike action was taken after due deliberation on issues affecting Research Institutes in the country.

“Sequel to the failure of the Federal Government to fulfill its promise of paying 12 months of arrears arising from 53.37percent wage increase among other issues agreed upon at a meeting held with JORAISU on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, the council has decided to resume the suspended strike whenever a directive is given,” stated the communiqué.

The council also frowned at the attitude of the Chief Executive Officers of Research Institutes for not implementing a circular issued in 2016 and another clarification circular issued in March by the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation on the removal of HND/BSc dichotomy.
