The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has criticized the federal government over recent abolition of tenure policy in the federal public service, saying the development was ill-advised
The federal government had in 2009 introduced two term tenure of four years each for permanent secretaries and a single eight-year tenure for directors in the public service in the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari abolished the policy in June this year.
But the immediate-past  president of the union, Comrade Bobboi Kaigama ,said  at its 3rd quadrennial delegates conference in Abeokuta that the policy was abrogated without due  consultation with strategic stakeholders in the country.
“We therefore wish to reiterate our demand that the government should reverse this ill-advised policy and summon a stakeholders meeting to discuss the development.”
He also picked holes in the recent appointment of permanent secretaries from outside the civil service, saying the practice contravenes the relevant provisions of the constitution of  Nigeria.
Kaigama also faulted the rise in irregular appointments in the Federal Civil Service which negates due process.
“There are instances where graduates with eight to 12 years graduation experience are being appointed as directors at the expense of those who have put in years of commendable service to their fatherland. This has adversely affected the morale of officers that have been compelled to report to their juniors in school.”
