The vice chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Owunari Georgewill, has praised Lekki Gardens CEO Dr. Richard Nyong for what he called a “remarkable show of loyalty and generosity” toward his alma mater.

In a goodwill video released by the university, Professor Georgewill thanked Nyong, an alumnus of the institution, for providing sustained support in the form of student scholarships, research funding, and infrastructure development.

“He didn’t forget where he came from,” the vice chancellor said. “Through his consistent donations and interventions, Dr. Nyong is changing lives and setting a powerful example.”

Nyong’s contributions include an annual ₦80 million commitment under a ₦320 million four-year pledge. The funds have gone toward scholarships for financially vulnerable students, an academic endowment for lecturers, and the improvement of facilities across the university.

“Dr. Nyong has distinguished himself as a true friend of this university,” the VC added. “We are proud to call him one of our own, and we hope others will follow in his footsteps.”

The message comes at a time when many Nigerian universities face declining government funding and serves as a reminder that the private sector, and especially alumni, can play a pivotal role in preserving the integrity of public education.
