United Nigeria Airlines has strengthened its fleet with the acquisition of two Boeing 737-800 Next Generation (NG) aircraft, marking a significant milestone in the carrier’s expansion strategy and commitment to enhancing air travel services across Nigeria and beyond.
The newly acquired aircraft, bearing registration numbers 5N-CFC and 5N-CFB, have been dedicated to two distinguished Nigerian icons – His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, and the late literary legend, Professor Chinua Achebe.
According to the airline, the dual dedication reflects its commitment to celebrating Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and honouring individuals whose contributions have left lasting impacts on society.
The aircraft arrived at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MM2) in Lagos on June 13, 2026, and are scheduled for formal unveiling on June 18, according to a statement by the airline.
The event is expected to attract key stakeholders in the aviation sector, including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Obi of Onitsha, and other dignitaries.
Speaking ahead of the unveiling, United Nigeria Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Adedayo Olawuyi, described the acquisition as a landmark achievement for the airline.
“This aircraft is not just about expanding capacity; it is about telling our story, celebrating our icons, and uniting our people with a renewed sense of pride,” Olawuyi said.
He added that the arrival of the Boeing 737-800NG aircraft represents a defining chapter in the airline’s growth journey and underscores its ambition to deliver world-class services to passengers.
The Boeing 737-800 is widely recognised for its operational efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort. United Nigeria Airlines said the addition of the aircraft would boost its operational capacity, improve service reliability and support the expansion of its route network.
The airline noted that the fleet enhancement comes at a time of growing demand for seamless and premium travel experiences, positioning it to better serve both domestic and regional markets.
