The University of Maiduguri Alumni Association, FCT chapter, has said unity and reconciliation remains at the heart of the association’s leadership.

The Chapter also expressed formal acceptance and appreciation for the recent decision taken by the Board of Trustees and Vice Chancellor Professor Aliyu Shugaba, to dissolve the Executive Committees at both National and State levels.

Musa Ibrahim Musa, the Association’s Publicity Secretary, in a statement, described the step as a necessary stride towards rectifying the inconsistencies observed within the association.

They commended the formation of a 5-man Caretaker Committee, chaired by Dr. Mohammed Bulama, to usher in a new phase and initiate progressive governance under the direction of Dr. Umar Bindir, Dr. Mike Omeri, Sonia Chikelu, and Sarah Jeta Atumga, Esq.

The statement read in part: “The establishment of the 5-man Dispute Resolution and Mediation Committee, chaired by Prof. Musa Mohammed Deji, with Princess Joy Okoro, Immamudeen Talba, Hamisu Medugu and Tabji Simon, Esq as members, symbolizes our commitment to harmonize divergent views and foster a spirit of cooperation.

“This committee is not just a body for resolving conflicts; it is a beacon of hope for a unified future, steering us towards our collective aim of maintaining the integrity and advancing the interests of our alma mater.

“The concerns raised by the FCT Chapter during the inaugural AGM from entry denials to procedural discrepancies were not just issues but alarms signaling the need for a more structured approach to our association’s governance.

“These concerns, voiced through our petitions, were calls for legal adherence and respect for democratic processes, not an affront to our fellow members.

“We called on the BoT to intervene in upholding the constitution of our association and the swift response is highly commendable and demonstrates the zeal to see our dear association grow.

“Se urge all members to engage actively in dialogues, support the committees’ initiatives, and collectively strive to align our association’s operations with our constitution and democratic principles.”
