The National Universities Commission (NUC) says syllabuses of courses studied in universities are outdated.
Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Julius Okojie, stated this when the Computer Professionals Council of Nigeria (CPN) visited him in Abuja.
He said the major challenges affecting quality teaching in universities included poor teacher-student ratio, outdated curriculum, lack of effective computer software and hardware development, archaic system, insecurity, examination malpractices and relevance of subject thought. The council also visited the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Federal Ministry of Communication Technology.
CPN chairman, Professor Vincent Asor, urged government agencies to support the council in its quest to promote computer basics. He said that the reason of the visits was to strengthen collaboration between CPN and the agencies to ensure academic standards.
