Universities across the country have been urged to adopt digital teaching methods.  Executive secretary of the National universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie gave the advice in Abuja yesterday at the 2015 international conference on ‘Technology  Assisted Learning’ jointly organised by the NUC, American University of Nigeria and the Digital Promise Foundation.
 Okojie said transition from the obsolete teaching method to the use of ICT was a must for the nation as this would help in driving the Nigeria university system forward.
 He said there were about 2.4 million students in Nigerian universities while over 1.8 million students were seeking admission every year, bearing in mind that we only have 500,000 vacancies for them.  
 He said the Open University of Nigeria should also be encouraged to use digital teaching technologies.
 “ICT, of course, will improve the quality of students produced by our universities and will also enhance the quality of the teachers. What we need basically is how to ensure expansion of access into the tertiary institutions,” he said.
Former executive secretary of the NUC, Professor Peter Okebukola, who spoke on ICT in the ‘Nigerian Education Sector: Its Current State and Future Prospects,’ said the current curriculum in Nigerian schools was not keeping pace with the current change in ICT.
