University of Abuja needs ETF intervention

For someone like Professor Adebowale Adelabu, who has spent a significant part of his productive years in the citadel of academia, it would be utterly justifiable to expect much from him.

Be that as it may, I am strong in my conviction and believe that this professor would not risk to fail. The professor, among other things, is gradually unfolding his programmes, vision and projects, aimed at placing the university on the solid path of economic, academic excellence and prosperity.

In the first place, in all attempt to provide some of the basic necessities of life at our hallowed citadel of learning, the vice-chancellor has almost completed the (11) bore-holes at the permanent site, staff quarter and the main campus respectively. He has also acquired shuttle buses in addition to the two given by the Federal Government, which will soon be in use to alleviate perennial transportation problems. Also he has ensured that power supply on the campuses are reasonably sustained.

Furthermore, he has also taken steps to pay for the fire fighting vehicle contracted by the previous administration in order to meet up with the exigencies of fire outbreak, as well as paid for the refuse dumping vehicle similarly contracted by the previous administration to enable the sanitation officers of the university perform their sacred task of keeping the institution healthy.

However, it is worthwhile to say that these little activities and actions here and there, are the essential foundation and ingredients upon which a greater tomorrow is built.  Notwithstanding, the institution and his managers are faced with a lot of challenges. A lot still remains undone. Prominent among these are the problems of moving manpower and equipment to the permanent site and ensuring that the institution remains focused in the pursuit of its primary objectives for the attainment academic excellence.

At this juncture, I wish to make a clarion call on the federal government to include the University of Abuja on the ETF intervention fund list. This fund would go a long way to assist the Vice-chancellor Professor Adebowale Adelabu in taking the University of Abuja from a pedestrian state to land of fulfillment, in line with the vision of the founding fathers.
