A lecturer from the University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, Dr. Edna Stan-Maduka, has said that university campuses are unfit for students under the age of 18 years.
She said parents whose children are seeking for admission under the age of 18 must exercise patience in their quest to further their education at the tertiary level until they reach the required age limit, adding that the university environment was meant for adult.
Stan-Maduka, who spoke at the 6th graduation ceremony of  Westerfield College Lagos, after three universities in United Kingdom and Canada granted several of their graduating students scholarships to study various degree courses, said before a student can gain admission into tertiary institution, he or she must be matured.
The Nigerian-born UK lecturer, who addressed the students on the topic tagged ‘Dare to Dream’, also described double-promotion in secondary schools as a wrong practice, adding that one may be brilliant but not matured enough to handle the university level.
“We hear that schools in Nigeria graduate students from secondary schools aged 14 and 16. Really, I don’t understand that. It is wrong and needs to stop.
“Nothing should stop you from dreaming. The road is not that smooth but I tell you, keep dreaming.” She advised.
