The Vice-chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, says the collaboration between the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the management of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, has led to an improvement in both infrastructural and human capacity development.
He called for more collaboration to ensure that the infrastructural development currently ongoing in the education sector is not truncated.
Professor Esimone, who spoke at the sidelines during the 52nd Convocation lecture of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, dispelled the rumours that TETFUND programs do not have the buy-ins of the management of the institutions where the projects are being embarked on.
He stated that TETFUND and the management of the institutions are always in agreement, and approvals are sought before the program is executed.
“In all fairness, as the chief executive of a university for about five years, I will say categorically that it is not true because all the projects TETFUND execute in our universities, they consult the management and get our buy-ins and execute according to what is planned.”
The Vice-chancellor went further to add that he is satisfied with various programs being executed by TETFUND, including training, seminars, and others, noting that the tertiary institutions apply for approval in principle for all the programs, buttressing the fact that all TETFUND projects get the approval of the tertiary institutions involved before implementation.
Esimone further sought more TETFUND projects in the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, while praising the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Architect Sunday Echono, for his exemplary management of TETFUND, which has led to the growth of infrastructure in various tertiary institutions, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
