Unknown gunmen at the weekend killed the Councillor representing ward 2 in Akuku Torlu Local Government Area of Rivers State, Sotonye  Milford Goergewill . The Councillor , a strong member of APC in the area  was killed at about 9.45pm on sunday at his grand father’s house at the town axis of Port Harcourt.

 

Rivers State Governor Chibike Amaechi said the killing of the Councillor was sad and shocking. He said the State Government is waiting for the outcome of Police investigation over the Councillor’s murder.

 

Rivers State Commissioner of Police Johnson Ogunsakin confirmed the story. He said the killing of the Councillor was cult related and that he has mobilized his men to go after all known gang members in the State  especially their leaders and sponsors.

 

“We are aware of the incident and it was a sad thing. We have established that it was a cult related case and I have ordered my men to identify and arrest all known cult leaders in the State” he said.

 

The death of the Councillor was coming few days after the abduction of a former House of Representative member, Chiyere Igwe who represented Port Harcourt federal constituency 1 in the house of representatives  and the Port Harcourt City chapter Chairman of PDP.

 

 

The former Reps members and two others were abducted at Eagle Island part of Port Harcourt where they had gone to attend PDP meeting.
