A teenage mother who was dumped in Bwari town, Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, past midnight on September 6 by unknown persons has died on Saturday, leaving a four -month old baby.

A witness, who would not want to be named, said the young woman, who apparently had speech disorder, was brought to Zango area of Bwari on an okada along with a middle-aged man, late in the night on the fateful day.

“The motorcyclist left and the man asked people around of the residence of the Hausa community leader (Sarkin Hausawa) and he was taken there by a volunteer.

“On getting there, the man was said to have knocked on the door but left before it was opened leaving the woman and her baby behind,” he said.

The witness further said people who requested to know her personal history couldn’t get answers because, though she could hear, she could not talk. A man bought food for her and she was taken to the Sarkin Hausawa after daybreak.

“She could not speak but she could hear what people said in Hausa language and she was able to give answers using her hands to demonstrate. We mentioned most of the northern states to her when we wanted to know her state of origin and she tilted her head rejecting them but when one man mentioned Zamfara, she nodded in agreement.

“We also mentioned major towns in Zamfara State and she also agreed to have come from Tsafe. However, none of us knew Tsafe and its neighbouring towns very well.

“The woman indicated that she was abducted long ago and became pregnant after being raped. She acknowledged that her name was Adama and her son’s name was Mohammed,” the witness said.

When contacted yesterday, Sarkin Hausawa Dantani Dantsoho confirmed that the woman, who was abandoned by an unknown person, died on Saturday of heart related complications.

He said the lady was earlier taken to the Emir of Bwari, Alhaji Awwal Musa Ijakoro, who resolved to take her to the local authorities in Tsafe.

“I took her to the hospital where she was diagnosed with heart disease because she had swelling in her feet, hand and most parts of her body,” he said.

He said the baby is being looked after by the Women in Da’awa group.
