The Nigerian Bar Association’s annual general conference is the largest gathering of legal practitioners in Nigeria. It is a one-week professional development event held once a year, usually in the month of August, during courts’ vacation. The annual august gathering helps build fraternity amongst lawyers both old and young; it provides an opportunity for colleagues spread across Nigeria to converge in one place, reunite with colleagues, and learn new things from being called to the Nigerian Bar, hence easier for the legal profession to transform quickly to modern legal practice as done in advanced legal industry.

The information communication is not the only novel achievement of the NBA – TCCP. Considering the importance of the health of lawyers due to the stress on the job, members of the medical profession would be available at the conference to offer free medical checks to conferees. Another noticeable achievement is the invitation of business elite from Nigeria and beyond; invitation of internationally recognized leaders of the advanced countries, all in a bid to ensure that we place the Nigerian legal profession at par with our developed counterparts in advanced legal environment.

This is where the young legal practitioners come in, by using the social media as a means to promote the image of the legal profession, rather than post contents that bring the profession into disrepute in the eyes of the public, we should be working together to restore the confidence of the public, and also take the practice to the next level.

The downside, however, is that it is one thing for a legal practitioner to have a tablet, it is another thing to know how to use the tablet to change the method of legal practice by legal practitioners. With this new trend, every lawyer who registered for the conference and is in possession of a tablet ought to begin the art of sending emails to colleagues, law firms, junior employees in the office, even correspondences from the secretary to any employee of the law firm, and vice versa.

It is our belief that legal practitioners who registered and are attending the conference in the centre of excellence should make good use of this first of its kind opportunity of the gathering of great minds both within and outside the profession to find new things about legal practice and work to take the legal profession to higher heights.
