‘Up NEPA’, a documentary highlighting the ongoing struggles with electricity supply in Nigeria, premiered on Thursday in Abuja.
Among those present at the screening were filmmakers, industry stakeholders, and representatives from relevant institutions within the power sector.
Produced by Griot Studios, the documentary sheds light on various issues plaguing the sector, such as inadequate policy implementation, regulatory oversight, gas supply hurdles, transmission system limitations, and corruption.
While giving her opening speech, the executive producer of ‘UP NEPA’ and creative director of Griot Studios, Ummi Yakubu, mentioned that it was important for the documentary to come out at a time when electricity tariffs were increasing despite the poor access to electricity.
She said, “This issue impacts various aspects of life, including healthcare, business, and overall quality of life.
“It’s crucial to recognise that economic development and progress cannot occur without a consistent and dependable electricity supply.
“We hope that the average Nigerian who watches this will gain insight into the power sector’s workings, identify key stakeholders, and grasp the process of power generation all the way to its delivery for household use,” she stated.
Notable guest appearances in the film include Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw and renowned rapper Jude Abaga, also known as MI.
