A creative art workshop on upcycling will hold in Abuja from April 22 to May 3, at the International Institute for Creative Development. The aim is to empower and expose young creatives to alternative to recycling.

This is in the sense that it adopts five dimensions which include the need to empower economically, reduce our footprints and waste landfill footprint, coupled with the ever-present need to safeguard our environment in the face of developmental challenges and promote a new way of thinking about the consummation products.

With the support of the American Embassy in Abuja, ten artists from across Nigeria have been selected to participate in the workshop, the core driver of which is sustainability.

The artists include Paula Mallam, Bilkisu Garba, Uzoma Samuel Anyanwu and Imo Chigboromogu. Others include Izuu Mouneme, Ifedilichukwu Chibuike, Fatai Abdukareem Babatunde and Nzekwe Philips. Pricilla Uzero, Owoyeim Taiwo and Steve Ekpenisi are also among the participants. 

 These artists who produce environmentally-related and conscious art have been invited to work, discuss and have a hybrid section with other professionals who are working on environmental related disciplines ranging from renewable energy, architecture, furniture designers and smart architecture.

Each participant will produce two new works at the end of the workshop. A joint installation piece would also be created and installed in an open space or any space deemed fitting/suitable, to encourage more participation and achieve a wider audience.

There will be a two-day talk shop organized at the Centre, to which artists working or specialized in the field of environment will be invited.  This will also involve students, public and the media to cover who will have access to an Open Studio during the workshop to interact with the artists. 

The workshop facilitators include Dr. Victor Fadeke, Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwigwe, Nduwhite Ndubuisi Ahanonu and Ifesinachi Nwanyanwu, among others.
