Hundreds of youth have taken to the streets in Maiduguri protesting today’s blast which killed over 30 people and injured over 50.
The youth are attributing the development to the cold relationship between Governor Kashim Shettima and his predecessor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
Our correspondent reports that the youth have burnt the campaign office of Sheriff along Sir Kashim Ibrahim way which was renovated few days ago in preparation ahead of 2015 elections.
Sheriff is seeking to contest the Senate and was two time governor of Borno State between 2003 and 2011.
Many cars and campaign spots bearing the name of the former governor have been destroyed by the rampaging youths who also attempted to burn the house of his father along Damboa road but dispersed by military operatives.
The former governor had been in Maiduguri since on Sunday but had to fly out of Abuja in his private jet around 2.30pm today.

Latest information on Maiduguri bomb blast indicates that no fewer than 30 people lost their lives while twenty vehicles and many roadside tents destroyed.
A police traffic warder, women selling bean cake; many motorists and a popular suya meat seller and four of his boys who were all by the road near a mosque at the GSM village lost their lives.
Credible hospital sources said over 30 dead bodies have been deposited at the State Specialists Hospital.
“As I am talking to you now, emergency workers are attending to some of the people that sustained injuries,” a medical personnel at the hospital said.
The last bomb blast in the heart of Maiduguri city exploded in March, 2013 at One Way, along the Maiduguri Monday Market.
Police commissioner Lawan Tanko said, “My men had counted 17 dead bodies’ minutes after the incident. Five of those injured have been taken to hospital and my men are still working and counting at the scene. I have directed my officers to visit hospitals and make further inquiries,” he said.
