Dozens of people have been reportedly killed when Nigerian troops and members of the Boko Haram sect at the early hours of today engaged in fierce battle for the control of Bama, one of the most populous towns in Borno State, witnesses said.

It was gathered that during the fight, the Boko Haram insurgents suffered heavy casualty after they met resistance from Nigerian soldiers who were earlier mobilized to Bama for onward deployment to Gwoza.

Some soldiers and mobile policemen were also killed during the ensuring fight while many civilians, who were scampering for safety, were also killed. Witnesses said.

A credible security source said the insurgents were repelled when they launched the first attack on Bama around 5am.

“Dozens of them were killed but those that fled remobilized again and went back to Bama with full reinforcement. As we are speaking (around 5pm today) the fight is ongoing and I can assure you that the terrorists have met their waterloo this time around,” the source said.

 

Curfew reviewed in Maiduguri

 

Meanwhile, the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army today in a press statement signed by the Deputy Director Army Public Relations Colonel Sani Usman said the curfew imposed on Maiduguri has been adjusted.

 

“It is now to last from 7 pm to 6 am daily. All must comply with this directive. Anyone found flouting this directive will be arrested, dealt with decisively and prosecuted,” he said.
