The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) administered by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), U.S. Department of Defense, and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is set to provide treatment to 60,000 People Living with HIV (PLHIV) in Lagos.

The plan is under its Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART) surge program aimed at identifying HIV carriers in the state.

Consul-General, Claire Pierangelo, disclosed this when the U.S. delegation visited Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Government House in Ikeja.

The visit was to highlight the long-standing USG support to Lagos State and the U.S. government’s $75million budget increase for HIV control activities in Nigeria.

Pierangelo commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to work with all stakeholders and for his cooperation with the U.S. government.

The Consul-General urged the governor to remove all barriers hindering people living with HIV from accessing free services offered by the USG through the PEPFAR program.
