No fewer than 20 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, are set to participate in the maiden edition of the International Qur’anic Recitation Competition to be hosted by Nigeria.

According to a statement by Muhammad Bashir on behalf of the competition’s organizing committee, the event is organised by Majalisu Ahlil Qur’an International Qur’anic Competition.

It will bring together participants from across the globe, highlighting Nigeria’s central role in promoting Islamic scholarship and unity.

The competition, spearheaded by a former federal lawmaker Hon. Muhammad Adam Alkali, who represented Bassa/Jos North in Plateau State, is scheduled to be held in August 2025.

The event will begin in Jos, Plateau State, with the grand finale to be held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“At a recent preparatory meeting, Hon. Alkali expressed deep appreciation for the strong backing from the Centre for Islamic Studies at Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto.

“He emphasised the competition’s aim to promote Islamic values and unity, reaffirming the Holy Qur’an as the guiding light for Muslims in pursuit of a meaningful life,” the statement said.

The chairman of the organising committee, Gwani Sadiq Zamfara, also provided an update on preparations, assuring that all plans are on track to ensure a smooth and successful event.

Countries expected to participate include Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritania, Niger, Egypt, Morocco, Libya, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
