The United States Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth on Friday said the President Donald Trump’s administration was working with the Nigerian government to end what he termed “persecution of Christians by jihadist terrorists.”

Hegseth disclosed in a post on his X and Facebook handle following his recent meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA) Malam Nuhu Ribadu and his delegation to the US.

“Yesterday, I met with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor and his team to discuss the horrific violence against Christians in their country.

“Under @POTUS leadership (President Donald Trump), DOW is working aggressively with Nigeria to end the persecution of Christians by jihadist terrorists”, he wrote.

Weekend Trust reports that Ribadu led a high-powered delegation to the United States over the allegation of Christian persecution in Nigeria.

Earlier in the month, President Donald Trump redesignated Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern and asked some lawmakers, including Congressman Riley Moore to investigate the situation in Nigeria and get back to him.
