The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in collaboration with the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, has launched a new initiative to provide basic education to states affected by insurgency in the North East, especially Adamawa and Gombe.

The gesture was made known in a press statement made available by the US Embassy in Abuja yesterday.

The Addressing Education in North East Nigeria (AENN) three-year programme will see AUN collaborate with Columbia and Kent State universities in the US on the initiative.

The USAID Education Office Director, Denise O’Toole, said, “Access to education in the North East has severely declined since the Boko Haram and Islamic State-West Africa insurgencies began displacing families and communities a decade ago. AENN will address the resulting acute educational needs while laying a foundation to rebuild and transform the education system.”
