Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has issued an Executive Order on the use of face mask across the state.

The order was part of efforts to curtail the spread of COVID-19 and ensure safety of the people of the state from contracting the virus.

 Daily Trust gathered that the executive order followed a request by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Innocent Vakkai, to the governor.

The commissioner, it was learnt, was worried over rates of infection and intimated the governor of the high number of cases recorded by the state in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor Ishaku, apart from the order of compulsory wearing if face mask, also approved for the state Ministry of Health to set up an isolation centre at Jolly Nyame Stadium Motel in Jalingo, the state capital.

The use of face mask and hand washing at government offices, markets, schools and other public places in the state is also now compulsory.

The state Commissioner of Information, Danjuma Adamu, told Daily Trust in an interview that the executive order by Governor Darius was a good decision to control the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
