Speaking on the theme ‘The role of students/youth in ensuring security in Nigeria’, organised by Nigerian Universities Association of Management and Business Students in Abuja, Kanu noted that it was informed by this that the NGO introduced the Parents Against Crime Together and Youth Against Crime Together to address our challenges.
He said both programmes are aimed at ensuring better future by teaching the youth good moral practices and values and ability to resist peer pressure, noting that a youth who is disciplined and has good manners has less chance of committing crime.
He said the best way for students and the youth to ensure security in the country is by inculcating self-discipline, noting that the role of students in ensuring security in Nigeria begins with education which is the greatest and most efficient instrument to improve moral values.
“Through education you will be able to create new jobs, build a strong and competitive economy, promote harmony and coexistence and respect for other people and their views,’’ he said.
He said we presently have a high crime rate due to the deterioration of family moral values and overall difficult financial situation, adding that parents and guardians are not aware of their responsibilities and are busy sending out kids onto the streets without first teaching those rights and wrongs.
