Use radio to enlighten communities on smuggling – District head tells customs

The District Head of Ketare in Katsina State, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, has called on the state Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service to embark on public enlightenment campaigns and sensitization of host and border communities through radio programmes. 

Kankara, who is also the Kanwan Katsina, spoke during a consultative forum organised by the Katsina Area Comptroller as part of efforts to cement understanding between the service and host communities. 

Alhaji Bello said through radio programmes, the command could enlighten border communities, importers and exporters on its regulations. 

The monarch, who is also a retired comptroller of customs, urged businessmen to pay their duties and contact the command before importing goods to avoid seizures. 

The forum had in attendance the representative of the state governor, emirs of Katsina and Daura, civil society organizations, market unions, traders, importers, exporters and customs license agents.
