Two hundred police constables and corporals who completed an intensive combat and weapons handling course in Kano have been urged to remain battle-ready against criminal elements while exercising professionalism, restraint and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, gave the charge at a ceremony marking the end of a one-month specialised training programme held at the 9 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, Hotoro, and the 52 PMF Squadron, Challawa.
Bakori said the officers underwent rigorous training in combat techniques, weapons handling and modern policing ethics to strengthen their capacity to tackle emerging security challenges in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
According to him, the training covered body positioning, trigger control, follow-through and tactical manoeuvres designed to improve operational effectiveness.

While emphasising the need for professionalism, the commissioner advised the officers to adopt a balanced approach to policing.
“Be hard on crime and be soft on the people. You must be combat-ready to confront criminals, while remaining civil enough to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens,” he said.
Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Audu Sabo, Bakori also urged the officers to obey lawful orders at all times and remember that the uniform they wear represents the integrity and image of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commanding Officer of the 9 PMF Squadron, Hotoro, ACP Hafeez Oyekan, said the trainees received intensive instruction in modern weapons handling, principles of marksmanship, combat tactics and tactical operations.
He urged the newly trained officers to handle firearms responsibly and uphold human rights while interacting with members of the public.
Similarly, the Commanding Officer of the 52 PMF Squadron, Challawa, ACP Mannir Madugu, expressed confidence in the officers’ ability to respond effectively to emergencies, noting that the training was conducted in line with international best practices.
The event featured a ceremonial parade, tactical operation demonstrations, riot control exercises using smoke, and tactical withdrawal drills.
