‘Use your swords to fight Satan’

Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Revd Chidi Collins Oparaojiaku gave the advice penultimate Sunday during a knighthood investiture of nine men and women into the Order into Dames of Mary Mother of Jesus respectfully.
The awardees included Christian Otti, Ogechi Chika Ikpemo, Kenneth Chike Alua, Prince Chituru Daniel, Okey Newton Uho, Chima Godwin Anele and Livinus Igbou while the Dames included Sarah Nwabueze Okehi and Augustina Uyaeme.
He said: “Use the sword rightly, not against your family, your children or church but against Satan wherever you meet him.”
The Bishop urged them never to see their position as mere tittles but as an assignment that would spur them in their commitment and resourcefulness to building their faith in God and the church.
He advised them to be up and doing in contributing to the development of their churches while he condemned the nonchalant attitude of some members of knighthood who refused to contribute to the church from year to year.
In his sermon, a senior priest in the Diocese of Nnewi Anambra State, Rev. Brown Tagbo Olisa, urged the recipients of the award to always stand against the works of Satan by being submissive to God.
He reminded them that the sword presented to them by the Bishop had a lot of significance in its usage, adding that they must always apply it whenever they are in the war zone with Satan.
He said: “The swords are not for killing of animals, or to fight against one another, but for spiritual battle, while stressing the need for Christians to know God wherever they find themselves.
He said that the investiture of knighthood to people brought about the unity of the church and members, reminding them of the importance of sowing a seed, believing that God’s blessing abounds.
In his advice, the Chaplain, Council of Knights of the Diocese of Ohaji/Egbema, Ven. Ikechi Ibems Onyeahialam, described knighthood as call to duty and not a mere tittle.
While urging them to be sure the church of God moves on beyond its present state, he added that wherever there is a knight, it means the church has matured.
Expressing his joy being among the chosen knights, Sir Ogechi Ikpemo said that by the honour done to him he has become an epitome of truth both in the church and in the society.
