Millions of Nigerians are involved in agricultural activities at different levels and capacities to provide food for the people and other agricultural produce they need for other uses.  But majority do not know that the agricultural activities they engage in also contribute to the impact of global warming.
The government through the ministries of agriculture and science and technology along with institutions of research and development are sensitising farmers through policy direction against farm applications and practices that are detrimental to the environment: conditions that degenerate into global warming.
Farmers organisations are already cashing into the new direction.
Each year, about 33 million acres of land around the world are denuded of vegetation, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
Changes  from fossil fuel investment to agricultural investment could significantly reduce the threat of global warming much more quickly than any other practice.
Many research works have shown that educating our farmers would ensure better understanding of current adaptation measures and their determinants for future successful climate change.
Many farmers fora are of the opinion that they should be included in the advocacy for global agricultural activities so that they could take the views of innovative farmers to their members who would in turn propagate same in their communities.
