A magistrate court in Zaria has sentenced a 21-year-old man to five years’ imprisonment for theft and vandalization of power supply equipment. Alhassan Ashiru of Kawari village in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State was charged by the police with theft of power supply equipment belonging to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company and mischief, offences punishable under sections 58, 312 and 302 of the Penal Code, Law of Kaduna State.
Delivering judgment, the chief magistrate, Mal. Umaru Bature, stated that the court found the convict guilty of the two count charges of theft and mischief brought against him and sentenced him to two and three years imprisonment respectively. He was however given an option of fine of N50,000 and N100,000 for the sentences.
He was also given 25 lashes before he was sent to prison.
