The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, has said those stealing and vandalising Nigeria’s critical infrastructures are threatening the nation itself.

The NSCDC boss made this submission on Tuesday while speaking during the opening ceremony of a two- day national workshop on protection of national critical assets and infrastructures at the headquarters of the corps in Abuja.

The theme of the workshop co-organised by the Corps and Anchor Technologies Training is:  ‘Security and protection of corporate and national critical assets and infrastructures for global best practices in a leading continental economy’.

Represented by the Deputy Commandant General in charge of operations, Hillary Madu Kelechi, the Commandant said "an entire region can be threatened by constant attacks by criminal elements as is being experienced in the northeastern part of the country and natural disaster which could have a devastating effect on social and economic life of the people. But we must do our part to secure government property at all times."

Gana added that the level of attack and continues threat on government critical infrastructure necessitated the Corps to convene a workshop to come up with a better strategy to address the attacks.

"As a lead agency, in the protection of critical assets, the corps has placed a structured plan towards eliminating threats to our critical infrastructure, by first taking in to account existing protective measures and identifying security gaps which will need to be addressed through specific protection measures.”

 

On his part, Assistant Commandant General (ACG) in charge of critical assets, Jonathan Iyogho, said the national workshop is aim at sensitatising all the stakeholders on the need to be proactive as well as examining better ways to secure national assets.
