Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators (ANUPA) has asked universities to undertake periodic staff training and capacity building for administrative officers because of the growing dynamism in management.

At the ANUPA 2016 conference at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the association’s President, Okey Ikegbunam, said just like every profession, administrative engagements are experiencing innovations and that except administrative officers are exposed to modern strategies of delivering their works, many would be left behind.

“We don’t want to be left behind. As administrators, we have a lot at stake in the running of universities beyond clerical duties in committees.

The university administration in Nigeria is usually in committees and we have always been confined to writing minutes and performing other clerical functions.

But beyond that, we have other strategic roles to play and as such the training and retraining of our members must be given priority,” Ikegbunam said. Deputy Registrar University of Jos (UNIJOS) and the immediate past President of ANUPA, Samuel Mwansat, also said that the focus of the participants in the 2016 summit was on the need for members to earn more training and retraining from respective institutions they worked with.
