Students sold Nigerian and Turkish food, cakes and pastries provided by women from within and outside the university community to raise money for people affected by the typhoon.
An artwork by Zoza Icha fetched $125,000 on auction, and the proceeds formally presented to Philippine ambassador Alex Lamadrid.
Students also manned donation boxes where visitors who didn’t want to make any purchase could put in cash donation.
Lamadrid, who declared the exhibition open alongside the university’s vice chancellor Prof. Hussein Sert and deputy vice chancellor for academics Prof Burhanenttin Usta, said Filipinos were grateful for the show of love.
He assured the gathering that the donation will go a long way in alleviating the pain of his people back home.
“No effort is too small in trying to put a smile on the faces of people in devastation,” said Aisha Yusuf, a final-year student of the university and member of the charity club.
“We hope the little we were able to do goes a long way in touching lives positively.  We will continue to assist in whatever little way we can as our contribution to the society and world in general.”
