A level two student of Gombe State University has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison by a chief magistrate’s court sitting at Kwadon, for house trespass and theft.

The student, Shamsudden Mohammed, a resident of Gadawo area of Kwadon town in Yamaltu Deba LGA of the state, was alleged to have burgled the house of his neighbour and stolen three caps valued at N7000.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Mohammed Usman, told the court that the offenses contravened sections 366 and 288 of the penal code law.

When the court asked the accused if the information was true, he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge labeled against him.

In his verdict, the presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Bala Ciroma, sentenced Mohammed to one year imprisonment or an option of N10,000 as fine for the offense of trespass and another one year imprisonment or an option of N10,000 fine for the second offense of theft, under sections 346 and 288 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) respectively.

 He was also ordered to pay N6,500 for the caps he stole under Section 365 of the CPC.
