A 23-year-old student of the University of Ibadan (UI), Ayotomiwa Elesho, has won the sixth edition of the Annual National undergraduate Essay competition with a N1 million prize.
The essay was organized by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Mahogany 21st Century
Concepts Limited.
The essay contest won by the 200 level Political Science student from Odogbolu in Ogun state, is aimed at encouraging research among the Nigerian undergraduates.
Also, Victor Sunday from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka emerged first runner up and won N700,000, while Bayelsa born Doutimibraladei Timothy Frank, from Federal University Otuoke emerged second runner up and got N500,000.
Speaking during the grand finale in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr Simbi Wabote, expressed happiness that the board has sustained the sponsorship of the competition for six years.
Represented by the Head Corporate Communication of the board, Barr. Esueme Dan-Kikile, Wabote said that NCDMB will continue to introduce programmes that will engage Nigerian youths, especially the undergraduates.
“The topic was expected to stimulate the young ones to deploy their creativity in capturing the strategies that should be considered in transiting into cleaner energy as well as appraise the Board’s interventions in this light,” he noted.
Mr. Eyinimi Omorozi, Chief Executive Officer of Mahogany 21st Century Concepts Limited and NCDMB consultants for the competition, said: “In the next five years, we want to see the competition grow where it will be recognized all over the world, so that Nigerians outside will participate in the programme.”
