Varsity to get 5,000 tree seedlings to address desertification

Al-Qalam University Katsina is to receive about 5,000 tree seedlings from a group, Katsina Youth Support Against Deforestation, to support the university’s drive against environmental degradation.

A statement by the Head of Public Affairs Unit of the university, Akilu A. Atiku, said the Chairman of the group, Nafi’u Maharazu, said during a courtesy visit on the management that the group was keen at  deforestation in Katsina State against “the lukewarm attitude of majority of the people” towards tree planting to preserve the environment. He said  that the group identified Al-Qalam University because of its student population and the need to inculcate the culture of planting and nurturing trees in the upcoming generation.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shehu G. Ado, thanked the group for its gesture, asserting that in Islam, planting of trees had a special reward.
