VC appeals for release of N200m allowances to avert lecturers’ strike

The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Muhammed Akaro Mainoma, has appealed to the state government to release the N200million Earned Academic Allowance, (EAA), owned to lecturers in order to avert strike.
 
Mainoma made the appeal yesterday when the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology paid an oversight visit to the institution in Keffi.
 
Mainoma said that the institution have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU), with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), to pay the lecturers their remaining 20% EAA by next month which had make the lecturers suspended its three months old strike on May 31,hence the appeal.
 
Mainoma said the state government and the university through its Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR), have done a lot in developing the school with the completion of some projects while others are ongoing.
The Chairman of the Committee, Daniel Ogazi, said that the visit was to assess the 2016 budget performance of the institution, with a view to addressing challenges, if any.
