Veritas University wins Pan-African debate

Veritas University, Abuja, has emerged as the winner of the Pan-African Universities Debate Championship held in Nairobi, Kenya.

Students of the university who represented Nigeria during the contest defeated over 100 African universities to clinch the trophy.

The students who won the championship are Ocheido Edwin Ada (economics); Ayafa Amada Tonye (economics); Yetunde Oshinowo (political science); Uguru Grace (history and international relations) and Gbenga Zacheaus (entrepreneurship).

The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university, Prof Hyacinth Ichoku, while receiving the winning team at the institution, described the feat as a victory for the university and the country as a whole.

He said winning the championship had further opened another new set of opportunities for the university and Nigeria as the students would represent Africa in the intercontinental debate that would be held in New York, USA, from April 1, 2023.

“And furthermore, they will also go to Madrid in Spain to represent Nigeria in the global universities championship that will also take place in June next year.”
