Veterinarians warn against antibiotics use in animal feeds

The Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) has warned livestock farmers to avoid the use of antibiotics as feeds additives or growth boosters for their livestock.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr Gloria Daminabo, issued after its congress in Sokoto State, said the association was committed to the global efforts to curtail the menace, adding that NVMA was prepared to work with all relevant stakeholders in the discharge of this mandate.

The association expressed concern on the health challenged posed by the high level of antimicrobial resistance across the globe and urged that various coordinating bodies should enforce the extant laws on the usage of antimicrobial.
