The Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) has developed a COVID-19 protocol in animals for the country.
The protocol was presented to the public and other stakeholders at the ‘Presentation and Validation of the COVID-19 Protocol in Animals for Nigeria’ meeting in Abuja by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono, represented by Dr. Saleh Momale of the ministry.

Speaking at the meeting, President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, Dr. Aishatu Abubakar Baju, said the document was developed in collaboration with other relevant agencies and stakeholders.
Dr. Baju, who is also an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, stressed that the protocol was borne out of the desire of the council to contribute its quota to the fight against the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic in the country, “with a view to entrenching the spirit of one world, one wealth mantra.”
“The protocol is designed to be a guide for animal owners who test positive for COVID-19, highlights the risk groups that need to avoid contact with COVID-19 infected animals as well as states the criteria for testing and retesting positive animals.”
