Two women who were kidnapped at Waasimi, along the Ibandan/Akure Expressway, have identified the gunmen that kidnapped them at the police headquarters where the suspects were arrested and paraded.

The suspected kidnappers were arrested on Tuesday with the support of local hunters.

The victims said they were travelling when the armed men intercepted their vehicle and took them into the bush.

During the identification parade after the arrest of the suspects, the victims narrated their ordeal in the hands of their abductors in the forest before the police rescue team came.

One of the hunters who participated in the operation, Mr Ahmed, said it was successful because of the commitment of the commissioner of police in the state, Wale Olokode.

“We got the information on Monday that the passengers were kidnapped, and the commissioner of police allowed us to join the rescue operation. We realised that he was very sincere, so we were determined to ensure the arrest of the suspects. Since 6pm on Monday, we were in the bush through the night. We eventually apprehended the suspects today (Tuesday),” the hunter explained.

The police public relations officer in the state, Yemisi Opalola, said the passengers were rescued without paying ransom to their abductors.

“The victims were rescued in the early hours of today, March 9, 2021, owing to the pressure mounted on the abductors by the police and other security agents. No money was paid,” he said.
