Ishaku Moses, a member of the local vigilante group, and two other individuals, Rabiu Bala and Kabiru Aliyu, have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of two bags of rice.

The incident, Abuja Metro learnt, occurred in the Paso community of Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

A security source, who requested anonymity, confirmed the arrests to our reporter via telephone on Sunday night.

The source said the vigilante member was arrested after allegedly aiding the burglary of a shop, from which the other two suspects reportedly stole the rice.

The theft was discovered on Saturday when the shop owner arrived to open for business. The owner immediately alerted security operatives from Gwagwalada.

According to the source, the vigilante, who had been hired to guard the shop, initially denied any involvement in the burglary. This denial reportedly angered the shop owner, who then invited security operatives to apprehend him.

“The vigilante later confessed during interrogations at Gwagwalada police station that the two suspects quietly broke into the shop and removed two bags of rice while he had fallen asleep,” the source said.

The two suspects subsequently led the police to a friend’s house in Unguwar Dodo, Gwagwalada metropolis, where the bags of rice were allegedly hidden.

The spokesperson for the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comment regarding the incident.
