Vigilantes have arrested over 400 cows for allegedly destroying crops in a farm at Sukuku village in Kwali Area Council.

A resident of the community, simply identified as Ezekiel Musa, said the incident happened at about 10:am when some Fulani herdsmen with their large herd of cattle invaded a farm belonging to one Joshua Agabi, which ate up yams, guinea corn and sesame seed.

He said when two sons of the farmer discovered the cows allegedly grazing inside the farm, they queried the herders for allowing them into the farm but that one of the herdsmen immediately pulled out his cutlass to attack them.

He said some youths in the area, who saw what was happening, placed a call to members of the vigilante team in Kwali and they mobilized to the farm.

Musa added that the vigilantes engaged the herdsmen in a gun battle inside the farm and succeeded in arresting two of them before they moved the cows out of the farm.

Our reporter sighted the large herd of cattle at Yangoji being herded by members of the vigilante heading towards Dafa village.

When contacted, Kwali Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Babagana Galadima, declined to speak on the incident, saying the matter was still under investigation.

“I can’t speak on the matter as we are still investigating it. And you can also contact the command PRO about the incident. We will also send our men to the farm at the village to see if such incident actually happened, “ he said.
