Vigilante operatives have arrested a man identified as Nazifi Aliyu for allegedly drugging his friend, Sanusi Suleiman, and fleeing with his motorcycle in Paso community, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A member of the vigilante group, Ishaku Adamu, said the suspect was apprehended on Saturday in Sauka, a community along Airport Road, Abuja.
Adamu explained that the incident occurred at a drinking joint, where the suspect allegedly laced his friend’s drink with a substance that caused him to lose consciousness before making away with his motorcycle.
He said vigilante members were alerted to the situation, and the victim was immediately taken home after being identified by a resident.
Upon regaining consciousness, Suleiman reportedly narrated the incident, prompting the vigilante group to alert their counterparts in Sauka, Kuje, Zuba and Suleja in neighbouring Niger State.
“However, the suspect hid the motorcycle at another friend’s house in Sauka, with plans to take it to Suleja for sale. Our members apprehended him before he could carry out the plan,” Adamu said.
He added that vigilante members in Gwagwalada were subsequently contacted and mobilised alongside the motorcycle owner, who confirmed ownership of the recovered bike.
According to him, the suspect confessed during interrogation to stealing the motorcycle. He has since been handed over to security operatives for further investigation.
