Vigilantes and hunters have shot dead a suspected kidnapper at Achido village in Abaji Area Council of the FCT.
A member of the vigilantes identified as Ibrahim, who was part of the operation, said the incident happened on Wednesday, around 9:23pm.
He said the kidnappers had attempted to invade a Fulani settlement near the community, to kill one of the herders at the camp when the vigilantes and hunters received information and mobilised to the area.
According to him, the vigilantes and hunters engaged the kidnappers when they got close to the herders’ camp in which one of the kidnappers was killed.
“It was upon receiving the information that the kidnappers were coming to the Fulani camp to kill one of the herders because he was giving us information that we mobilised and engaged them, killing one of them,” he said.
He said other kidnappers escaped with bullet injuries, even as he said the vigilante and hunters were still combining the forest to trace their hideout.
He said the kidnapper’s corpse was taken to Abaji police division in the area.
Our reporter gathered that the kidnappers were among those who fled from their hideout after Miyetti Allah vigilantes and hunters from Nasarawa State raided their hideout and killed 16 of them while rescuing 14 victims in captivity two weeks ago.
The FCT police command’s PPRO, SP Adeh Josephine, sought to find out and get back to our reporter.
