Vigilantes have arrested a woman, simply identified as Sarah, for allegedly dumping her newborn baby inside an uncompleted building at the Bako community in the Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
A resident of the Bako community, Enoch Bala, said the incident happened on Saturday around 4:47 am in the area.
He said the woman, who was staying with a friend at Bako community after her boyfriend abandoned her with the pregnancy, delivered the baby on Saturday night.
According to him, the woman quietly carried the baby, covered it with clothes, and was in the process of dumping the child at the abandoned building located in a nearby bush when she was arrested.
He said it was a resident who saw the woman with the baby covered by a cloth and became suspicious. The resident then quietly rushed to alert some neighbors in the area.
“It was during that process that the vigilantes were alerted. They immediately traced the woman quietly and discovered the location where she dumped the baby. She was arrested instantly,” he said.
One of the leaders of the vigilantes, Shedrack Ayuba, confirmed the incident, saying the woman has been handed over to security operatives in the area.
He said the baby, who was rescued alive, has also been taken to a motherless home in the area.
Security sources in the area also confirmed the arrest of the woman.
“The woman has been arrested while the baby has been taken to a motherless home pending the arrest of the woman’s boyfriend who abandoned her,” one of the sources said.
