Sixteen persons who were abducted by kidnappers in Agwe community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT have been rescued by vigilantes

City & Crime earlier reported that kidnappers last Saturday around 11am abducted 16 persons, including four women, on a farm in the community.

A vigilante, who was part of the operation but preferred anonymity, said the it was carried out on the same day, Saturday evening, when vigilantes mobilised into the forest.

He said 25 vigilantes from Kwali and Sabo communities in Kuje mobilised into the forest to engage the kidnappers in their hideout on the border of Nasarawa State.

He explained that, “Upon sighting the vigilantes, some of them started shooting, while others took to their heels. The vigilante overwhelmed them as they abandoned their captives and fled.”

He said the 16 abducted victims who were tied to each other, except the four women, were rescued and brought back home.

A resident, Shuaibu Aliyu, who spoke to our reporter through telephone on Tuesday, said, “We give glory to God as 16 people, including two my brothers, who were among those kidnapped were rescued through effort of the vigilantes.”

The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, was yet to reply to a text message sent to her phone over the rescue.
