Village head detained for allegedly shooting sister over palm fruit

The police command in Akwa Ibom State has arrested the village head of Ibagwa in Abak Local Government Area for allegedly shooting his 32-year-old sister.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that police operatives received a report of attempted murder at approximately 2.30pm on September 6.

According to John, a report was filed by the victim’s brother, who stated that the village head of Ibagwa had allegedly shot their sister in the head with a gun.

He said the victim was immediately taken to a hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and is in stable condition.

He said following the report, police responded, arrested the suspect, and took him into custody.

According to him, a single-barrel gun believed to have been used in the assault was recovered from him.

He said preliminary investigations suggest the incident was the result of a misunderstanding over palm fruits. (NAN)
