Village head dismissed over sale of forest reserve

The Katsina Emirate Council has dismissed the village head of Dabganya of Tsagero District in Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina State, Bello Abubakar, over illegal sale of 40 hectares from government forest reserve.

The secretary of the council and Sallaman Katsina Bello Mamman Ifo told Daily Trust that the council found Abubakar wanting after investigation. 

According to him, the action of the dismissed traditional ruler was coming few days after a stakeholders meeting aimed at addressing the menace of forest encroachment.

He said the council was greatly concerned with the matter because of its great impact on the crisis between farmers and herders, adding that council will continue to do everything possible to safeguard government forests.

It could be recalled that during the meeting, about 948 persons were discovered to have illegally encroached into government reserved forests as well as cattle routes with majority of them being top government officials, traditional rulers, politicians.
